To kick off 2018 at the Third Sector Cafe, we are looking at the thorny topic of the GDPR or General Data Protection Regulation which comes into effect on May 18th this year.

GDPR is causing businesses and charities signficant stress. It is a new, stricter version of the data protection act which will mean that people should have actively given you permission to keep and use personal data such as their email address, for the purposes you intend to use it for.

So to put this into context, if, for example, you have been in the habit of sending emails out to a large database of people which has gradually grown over the years with people added in a variety of ways, you will now have to have documentation showing that each person has actively given you their permission to contact them in the way, and for the purpose, that you are doing.

Our expert speaker at January's cafe.

For January's cafe we are  delighted to be getting some expert advice on the changes we need to make to comply with GDPR from Rebecca Stopford, Client Legal Director with The Legal Director company.

This is your chance to bring your questions along for Rebecca as she talks you through the implications of the GDPR and outlines some practical steps you'll need to take to ensure your organisation is complying.

Purchase your ticket

For this cafe we have 12 tickets available at £20 each to join us for Rebecca's presentation and a Q&A session afterwards. For those who can stay, we'll also be serving up some delicious sandwiches afterwards to enable you to stay and chat with fellow participants - often one of the most useful parts of coming along to cafes.

We will be recording this session as part of our ongoing experiment to make Third Sector Cafe discussions available digitally.

Please send us your questions

As you register for this event we'll ask you a few questions - please answer these questions to tell us more about what you'd like to learn for your organisation from this cafe discussion. We share this information with our expert speakers and it helps them to prepare content which is most relevant for the participants.
