the Third Sector Cafe

What is the Third Sector Cafe?

The Third Sector Cafe is a programme of monthly 'cafe' style discussions for people in our home city of Sheffield involved in doing good things in our city. We have info on our programme here and you can book a ticket to our upcoming cafe- events here

Who is it for?

You! If you volunteer, work for, fund or benefit from charities, social enterprises, voluntary societies or other non-profit activity in the city.

Also you if you are an entrepreneur or business owner with a passion for making a difference in the city through the service or products you create.

That's a broad canvas we know!

We've also been known to extend a warm welcome to people from further affield - even as far as Rotherham ;).

So please feel welcome to book a ticket for a cafe if you are interested in our topic of the month.

How does it work?

We choose one topic each month (and yes, please do send in your suggestions) and bring an expert together with people currently struggling with that topic to discuss it. You can see the topics we've got planned here

Our emphasis is on a friendly exploration where people help each other out with mutual support, inspiration and ideas. Sometimes you can learn just as much from the experience of another charity as you can from a leading expert.

In good company - our weekly(ish) ebulletin

The main way we keep people in the loop about our topic of the month is our weekly ebulletin - In good company Sign up here and we will add you to our email list to get case studies, recommended resources and invites to book a ticket for the next cafe.

What are the cafes like?

They generally run from 9.30 - 11.30 am on the 3rd Thursday of the month. We have a networking break in the middle. Numbers of people coming can vary from 5 or 6 to 20 or more depending on how interested people are in the topic we're discussing that month. We tend to ask people to share what their interest / experience of the topic is at the start to help people make useful connections. A speaker will generally talk for 20 minutes initially and then we will have a chance to explore questions.

Some cafe sessions take more of a workshop format where the speaker leads people through some useful resources. Check the info for the cafe you're interested in and subscribe to the ebulletin to keep informed.
